It's been awhile since we shared one of our coworkers of the day. And this week we had a very special guy at the office. 💚 MEET MARVIN 💚 📍Little Wichita Barn Marvin is a healthy, energetic boy who would love someone to watch cartoons with. This week it was Aspin, Little Wichita Barn Manager, who Marvin decided was the perfect couch buddy. No notes, 5 stars, would nap on again. Marvin's previous family loved him deeply but due to unfortunate circumstances could no longer keep him. Our staff and volunteers adore him, but it's still obvious Marvin isn't meant for the shelter life. The second Marvin spent a day out of a group shelter environment, he was calmer, cuddlier, and so at ease that he fell asleep right in Aspin's arms. His hound heart just wants a real home again. Today's coworker ordered Door Dash from next door (Thanks Mya!). He's also a seasoned couch potato and the only guy I know that makes snoring look cute: Meet Dr. Suess. Dr. Suess is at Always & Furever Midwest Animal Sanctuary's Wichita location, looking for his second chance at furever love. And man, does this guy deserve it. He’s one of the longest shelter residents, and you can tell not thriving in a home is wearing on him. Dr. Suess is not meant to be a shelter dog. He’s meant to be the center-of-a-family kind of dog. This fella had to say goodbye to his human through no fault of his own. For six years of his life, this handsome guy had a home, a couch, a comfy bed, and most importantly, a person who loved him dearly. Sadly, his dad had to move into assisted living and wasn't allowed to bring Dr. Suess along. Happy Wednesday! Our Coworker of the Day: Stone Stone is the ultimate good boy, waiting on his forever home at Always & Furever's Little Wichita Barn. This brindled gentleman greets everyone with big, kind eyes, a goofy smile, and the sweetest demeanor. He is excellent at building team morale and taking breaks on time. However, we handed off some documents for him to review and he said he'd "circle back" with his notes. He did not circle back. He is asleep. 🐾Stone's Resume:🐾 Boxer mix, 68 lbs, 11 years young Dog, cat, and kid friendly Loves to lean on, cuddle, or hold paws with his person Enjoys walks with his shelter roommates and is excellent on a leash Handles baths and car rides like a pro Big fan of snacks: veggie Kongs and puzzle toys are a couple of favorites During thunderstorms, Stone is most comfortable with reassurance from his person to remind him he's safe With 11 years of experience under his belt, Stone's basically senior staff. He's seen it all, he's unbothered, and knows exactly what he wants out of life: walks with friends, naps, snacks, and a person to call his own. I keep thinking about the kind of community I want to build with Pickle 4 Paws. Not a place people rush in and out of, but a place where families grow together. Where kids learn early that joy and kindness belong in the same space, especially with animals. Where movement, laughter, and compassion are part of everyday life and rescue. That’s why we’re creating something we’re calling our Founding Families. This is for families who want to be here from the beginning. Who want to grow with us. Who want their kids to see that doing something fun can also do something meaningful. We’re dreaming up experiences that feel different. Gentle yoga with kittens (either on the pickleball court or soaking up the sun in the 1,000 square foot heated/cooled adjacent space. Slow movement sessions with our senior dogs participating, with with downward dog stretches and sloppy soft kisses or simply soaking up love. Calm mornings. Connected evenings. A space where nobody has to be perfect to belong.... and of course there is access 24/7 to pickleball that will be set up through courtreserve and a FOB through your phone for entry. This is what rescue reimagined looks like to me. Thinking outside the box. Letting love show up in unexpected ways. Creating a place where helping animals happens naturally, simply by showing up together. For a long time, I’ve believed that the things we love most do not have to live in separate worlds. Movement. Community. Joy. Purpose. Rescue. Pickle for Paws was born from that belief. My name is Jen, and I’m the founder of Always & Furever Midwest Animal Sanctuary. I took a chance on what some people might call a crazy, beautiful idea. That faith, love, movement, and fun could come together in a way that saves more lives. This is a private pickleball club, but it is so much more than a place to play. Every membership directly saves lives next door at Always & Furever’s Little Wichita Barn. Senior dogs who deserve peace and dignity. Neonatal kittens who need constant care. Animals who were overlooked and needed someone to believe in them a little longer. Your membership saves lives next door. Literally. This is rescue reimagined. A different kind of shelter. A different kind of membership. A different way of showing up for animals and for each other. What excites me most is not only what this space is, but what it will become. Founding members will have exclusive access to community events that do not exist anywhere else. Fun movement sessions. Gathering days. And experiences like Sweating with the Oldies, where we move, laugh, and spend time with some of our senior dogs who thrive on human connection. I also designed this space to welcome your furry spectators, or even your furry teammates. There is a separate gated area for dogs who come to watch, complete with water bowls and cozy beds so they can relax while you play. All I ask is proof of vaccinations so everyone stays safe and healthy. For me, leaving my furry friends at home never feels right (hence the RV, where I go... my furry family goes tool and building a space where they are welcome mattered deeply. The full 3,000 square foot space will also be available for private weekend birthday parties, bachelorette and bachelor gatherings, and small corporate events. It is safe, private, welcoming, and built for connection. Warm and comfortable on cold winter days, cool and refreshing during the heat of summer. For those who want to build this from the very beginning, we are opening a founders window during January. Founding adult members 18 and over will be locked in at $75 per month for life. That rate will never increase. Kids under 10 are free. Kids ages 10 to 17 are $25 per month. When kids turn 18, they will be locked in at $50 if they remain on the family plan.
